INTRODUCTION

Adolescent pregnancy is not only a national disaster but international crisis which contributes to the cycle of poverty. Each year, 16 Million girls aged 15-19 years old give birth in developing countries.  According to World poverty clock, currently in Kenya 8,326,733 people live in extreme poverty (16.7%) of 49,825,131 people. Kenya has been ranked eighth globally and sixth in Africa among countries with the largest number of people living in extreme poverty.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  According to the Centre for the Study of Adolescence (CSA) approximately 13,000 girls in Kenya leave school every year due to pregnancy. In April 2013 CDC reported that nearly one in five teen births is a repeat birth—meaning that it’s at least the second birth for the adolescent mother. By age 15, 3 out of 100 girls are already child-bearing and this goes up to 40 out of 100 girls by age 19. Some of the causes of teenage pregnancies include; peer pressure, rape, cultural practices, broken families, poverty lack of sexual awareness, drugs and substance abuse among others.

PARTNERSHIPS

Sparkle AGAIN Foundation (SAF) noted this crisis & because of their already involvement in holistic mentorship continued rolling out life skills training programs targeting the adolescents & the youth as a way of curbing the menace. 

To date, SAF has been able to; partner with USAID (Kenya Youth Employment &Skills Program) in training train 71 youth on Intensive Life Skills, reached over 2,500 students from over 10 public primary & secondary schools through mentorship programs, reached over 3,000 youth through educative Radio Programs and mentored 53 adolescent mothers.

 In order to spur youth employability which eradicates poverty, SAF signed an MOU with USAID & the County Government of Kericho in 2018 with the responsibility of conducting life skills trainings & mentorship at the vocational training centres in the county. SAF works very closely with the Ministry of Interior& Coordination of National Government in inculcating values stipulated in Article 10 to the adolescent & the youth.

Sparkle AGAIN Foundation (SAF) is a registered Community Based Organization established in June 2017 operating in Kericho county. Our goal is to eradicate poverty by eliminating early pregnancies among the adolescent and youth (10-24years) & also empowering adolescent mothers to realize their full potential in life through holistic mentorship.

MISSION

Our mission is to empower adolescents, adolescent mothers, and youth by providing comprehensive mentorship programs aimed at eradicating poverty and fostering holistic growth.

VISION

We envision a world where every adolescent and youth is equipped to complete college, unlocking their full potential and breaking free from the cycle of poverty.

TARGET

1. Adolescents & the Disadvantaged Youth (10-24 years)
2. Expecting &Parenting Adolescents together with their Children.
3. Parents/Guardians of the Parenting Adolescents.

The Foundation is run by a Board of Directors from diverse professional Backgrounds and the Chief Executive Officer. The CEO oversees the activities of the organization with the help of the Programs Director in partnership with its mentors who are selected based on their experience, moral values & passion in mentorship.

Provide one year supply of sanitary towels and toiletries for one sparkle (and her child/children).

Support the mothers and children living with disabilities through providing aid, equipment and assistive devices.

Health

Paying a one year medical cover National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) that covers one mother and her child/children at Kenya Shillings 6,000 once a year.
